Uniform spherical grids via equal area projection from the cube to the sphere
نویسندگان
چکیده
We construct an area preserving map from the cube to the unit sphere S, both centered at the origin. More precisely, each face Fi of the cube is first projected to a curved square Si of the same area, and then each Si is projected onto the sphere by inverse Lambert azimuthal equal area projection, with respect to the points situated at the intersection of the coordinate axes with S. This map is then used to construct uniform and refinable grids on a sphere, starting from any grid on a square.

One-to-Two Digital Earth
The digital Earth framework is a multiresolution 3D model used to visualize location-based data. In this paper, we introduce a new digital Earth framework using a cube as its underlying polyhedron. To create multiresolution, we introduce two types of 1-to-2 refinement. Having a smaller factor of refinement enables us to provide more resolutions and therefore a smoother transition among resoluti...
متن کاملNew uniform grids on the sphere
Aims. A method for constructing new uniform grids on the sphere is given. Methods. We define a bijection in R2, which maps squares onto discs and preserves areas. Then we use this bijection, combined with Lambert azimuthal projection, for lifting uniform grids from the square to the sphere. Results. We can obtain uniform spherical grids that allow a hierarchical data manipulation and have an is...
متن کاملRegression Modeling for Spherical Data via Non-parametric and Least Square Methods
Introduction Statistical analysis of the data on the Earth's surface was a favorite subject among many researchers. Such data can be related to animal's migration from a region to another position. Then, statistical modeling of their paths helps biological researchers to predict their movements and estimate the areas that are most likely to constitute the presence of the animals. From a geome...
متن کاملSPHERICAL tε-DESIGNS FOR APPROXIMATIONS ON THE SPHERE
A spherical t-design is a set of points on the unit sphere that are nodes of a quadrature rule with positive equal weights that is exact for all spherical polynomials of degree ≤ t. The existence of a spherical t-design with (t + 1)2 points in a set of interval enclosures on the unit sphere S2 ⊂ R3 for any 0 ≤ t ≤ 100 is proved in [17, Chen, Frommer, Lang, Computational existence proofs for sph...
متن کاملSnap Angle Prediction for 360$^{\circ}$ Panorama
360◦ panoramas are a rich medium, yet notoriously difficult to visualize in the 2D image plane. We explore how intelligent rotations of a spherical image may enable content-aware projection with fewer perceptible distortions. Whereas existing approaches assume the viewpoint is fixed, intuitively some viewing angles within the sphere preserve high-level objects better than others. To discover th...
